Orange Nut Loaf

1 ½ c. flour 4 t. Baking powder 1 t. Salt 1 c. sugar ¼ c. shortening ½ c. chopped nut meats 3 T grated orange rind ¾ c. milk ¼ c. orange juice 1 egg |
Sift together dry ingredients. Add the shortening (can melt and add together with milk). Blend in nuts and orange rind. Add milk, juice and egg. Turn in - well greased 9 x 5 x 3” loaf pan. For well rounded loaf, allow batter to stand in pan 20 min. before baking. Bake in a moderate oven (350 F) for 1 hour. Date nut - Add 1 cup of chopped dates, omit the orange juice and rind, and increase milk to 1 cup. |
